Clients Check list

Please use the following list as a guide to considering your garden requirements.


Not everything will be relevant to you, but it's a good idea to make notes and mark those which are, with a score of 1 - 3.


Three - very important,
Two - less important,
One - optional.

1 - General Style

- Do you prefer ‘formal’ regulated gardens, emphasising ordered geometric shapes,
or do you prefer ‘informal’ ‘cottage type’ gardens featuring more natural and rustic characteristics?

 

- In all gardens there will inevitably be some mixture of both these characteristics, but which style would you prefer to see emphasised?
 

- Are there any other styles of gardens you admire, such as; French, Japanese, Mediterranean, Arabian, Woodland or Tropical?

2 -Practical Requirements

- Parking, garages, and access
- Other storage needs


- Access routes to house and services
- Any good views to be enhanced, or bad views to be screened
- Common direction of winds - Any windbreaks required

 

- Compost area
- Refuse bin store
- Drying facilities
- Irrigation systems
- Provision for pets
- Provision for birds and/or other wildlife

3 - Uses of Garden

- For how many people?
 

- Required Terrace(s) or Patios
- Barbecue facilities (and/or Fire-pit)
- Built in seating

- Other seating areas away from the main terrace (sun or shade?)
 

- Preferences for desired construction materials

- Lawns
- Vegetable or herb areas
- Children’s play area - (Ages?)

 

- Do you have an particular hobbies which would involve the garden

4 - Overview

- Type and age of building
- Any proposed extensions or alterations to the property

 

- What are your general likes and dislikes
- How much interest do you have in gardening / and how much time do you have available
- Do you have a Budget in mind.

5 - New Structures

- Pergolas, Arches or Arbours 

- Gazebo's and Garden rooms
- Statues and Follies

- Green houses
- Sheds
- Water features


- What are your preferred boundary styles? ie - hedges, types of fences etc.

6 - Plants

- Plants to retained in-situ or moved to new locations
 

- Flower colour preferences
 

- Any general likes or dislikes in plant characteristics or species

7 - Any New Lighting

- To illuminate specific areas or features

 

- Seating areas
- Access routes
